Class starts September 12, 2026 and runs through October 3rd with a bonus 5th session (in case we need more time) on October 10th.
No matter your skill level this workshop will have you knowing more than many professional artists. From choosing your materials and references to framing and hanging your work. We cover everything you need to know to not only start painting amazing images but also framing and hanging your work. Bonus material even covers Artist Statements, pricing, and applying to shows.

All materials and a box lunch each Saturday session are provided.
Session 1: Choosing your materials and materials experiments. Paint, additives, isolations, varnishes. Designing your composition. Choosing and using reference photos. Intro to copyrights, licensing, and fair use.
Session 2: Planning your painting and choosing colors. Image transfer methods. Preparing your surface: gesso, ground, base layer, under-painting, what? By the end of this session you’ll be ready to paint.
Session 3: Painting: I’ll walk you through step by step to help you complete the painting. Depending on the classes images, we’ll discuss painting techniques throughout this session. Our goal is to have a nearly finished painting before leaving this session. How we end this session will determine our session 4 and if we are likely to need or not need a session 5 class or if session 5 is hanging the show on November 3rd.
Session 4 and 5: TBD
The final class session will cover varnishing, framing, and hanging as well as artist statements, pricing, and applying to open calls.
