What to expect when you commission an Unblockable View Mural:
At checkout you’ll fill out a form asking for all the details of your wall and your desired mural. Add all the details you can think of, the more detailed and specific you are, the better. At the bottom of the form you’ll find my basic contract and be asked to sign before submitting. If you’re not ready for that, please use the free inquiry option at the bottom of the page.
Within 24 hours you after checkout, you should receive an email from me asking for inspiration images you have. If you have more than 3 or 4 you’ll need send them in batches, a zipped folder, or share a link to your cloud folder. Please try to keep everything in the same email reply chain so I don’t miss any images or details.
After I receive your images we’ll set up a time that week for a phone call, your Discovery Call, so we can go over everything together.
Discovery Call - We’ll go over all the details and images you sent, and work out a final plan for your design. I like to spend a few minutes getting to know you and answering any questions you might have then spend the rest of the call making sure I understand your vision from top to bottom. At the end of the call I’ll let you know a final price for your mural. My Trompe L’oeil Murals are approximately $5000 per 5ftx10ft section or $100/sq.ft. and includes travel and installation within Berrien County, Michigan. Installations outside of Berrien County, Michigan will incur travel and installation expenses that will be billed separately from the mural and must be paid before painting is completed. Mural fees must be paid in-full before painting begins.
Design mock-up with 2 revisions - After our Discovery call I’ll get to work designing your mural. I want you to be thrilled with your design so 2 revisions are included in the design stage. Extra design revisions will be billed at $50/hour.
Painting is done in my studio on industry standard mural cloth. - Once your happy with your design and your balance is paid I’ll begin painting.
Painting times will vary but I should be able to give you a guestimate when I begin your painting.
Halfway point check-in and revision opportunity - Halfway through painting I’ll check-in to see how you like it. If your not over-joyed at what you’re seeing, this is the time to revise. One full revision is included at this point. We want to make sure we’re on the right track and you’re going to be happy with the outcome. If we started with good designs, you’ll probably love most everything at this point but, if you don’t or aren’t sure, this is the time to say it and fix it.
Final check-in and final revision opportunity. - At this point I’m considering the painting as finished. The only revisions, if any, should be very minor and take no more than an hour to fix. Anything more than that will be billed at $300/hour and will be due before painting continues.
Installation Date will be scheduled once painting is completed and your happy with the results. Installation dates are typically set for 2-3 weeks out.
A final varnish will be applied and cured in my studio, before your installation, to insure your mural is durable, cleanable, and lasts a very long time.
Installation within Berrien County Michigan is included in the fee. (Installation outside of Berrien County will incur travel and installation fees.)

Intro to Trompe L’oeil Mini-Session
With one simple exercise we’ll talk about the basic building blocks of a good Trompe L’oeil painting, and tips, tricks, and techniques to use to be able to create more realistic artwork at home.
We’ll talk about lines, blending, color, perspective, composition, light, shadow, and form; all of the fundamentals you need in order to create paintings like my Unblockable View and seriously uplevel your own painting skills in whatever style you usually work in.
This 3 hour class is a great intro into various terms and techniques that will help turn any painter into a better one.

This Intro to Trompe L’oeil, 30 hour masterclass level course will do just that.
I’ll talk about image making fundamentals through the lens of acrylic paint and trompe l’oeil painting.
I won’t be teaching you how to copy my Unblockable View but I will be teaching you everything you need to know to create your own at home.
Class Sylabus
Day 1 - Saturday, September 12th - Foundations: Egg-in-a-Box
We’ll start with this exercise because it quickly touches on every topic all at once and it gives me a good idea of where each of you is starting so I can better conduct the rest of the course. At the end, we’ll try to revisit it so you can see how much you learned.
We’ll talk form, light and shadow, blending, perspective, straight lines, taping, composition, value mapping and more. The entire rest of the course revisits these topics and builds off of this first simple exercise. DO NOT MISS!
Day 2 - Saturday, September 19th: Learning to See
First we’ll meet, at 10am, at Kiesel Overlook Park down the street to spend about an hour looking, noticing, and taking some photos. Then we’ll head back to the studio to look at architecture and analyze our photos.
We’ll talk about composition, natural vs artificial light, perspective, horizon line vs vanishing point, atmospheric perspective, and good reference images. Homework: Reference Images
Day 3 - Saturday, September 26th: Color, Depth, Perspective
Using your reference photos we’ll be choosing a color palette and painting a small landscape.
We’ll talk more about color, light and shadow, composition, atmospheric perspective, depth of field, and knowing what to keep or scrap, what to do next, and when to stop
Day 4 - Saturday, October 3rd: Image Transfer
Today we’ll be painting one of my images of a Red Rose in a Red Vase on the window sill.
We’ll talk about surface prep, image transfer methods, reflections, perspective, details, and what parts really matter.
Day 5- Saturday, October 10th: The 3D Illusion
In the morning we’ll be doing 2 or 3 exercises to understand how to make a 3D object appear 3D on your 2D surface.
We’ll talk more about light and shadow, light sources, color matching, texture vs the illusion of texture, and perspective.
In the afternoon, we’ll revisit Egg-in -in-a- Box to see how much you’ve learned.
BONUS DAY- Saturday, October 17th
I’ve reserved this day on my calendar just in case we need it. I’ve crammed a lot of information and activities into this course and I want to make sure you’re able to get everything you can out of it. If there’s anything you didn’t finish or didn’t understand from any other day you’ll have this Bonus Day to wrap it all up.
All materials, and a boxed lunch with light drinks and snacks will be provided though, it may be helpful to bring a sketchbook or notebook so you can take notes. You should also bring your Smart Phone or a camera if you have one as we’ll be using it for several of the exercises. (not required, just suggested)

This course is great for a beginner but not a complete newb. We’ll cover a lot of fundamental image making topics that will drastically improve your skills no matter your favorite medium however, it is a fast paced class and will be difficult if you’ve never picked up a brush.
